Supergirl Saturday: Action Comics #299, “The Fantastic Secret of Superbaby II!”

And now for something completely different! After all the shenanigans over the past few weeks with Lena, Lex, and Lesla, I’m sure Linda is very glad that this week’s adventures contain no one with the initials “L.L.” (except her, of course).
Hey, Supergirl scored the cover!
Our story begins with Supergirl visiting Kandor. Among other activities, she judges a play about Superman’s origins:
Returning to Earth, she’s asked by Midvale Orphanage to come back and help them out for a bit, since they’re shortstaffed. She cheerfully agrees, but she’s not at all prepared for Midvale’s other new guest:
Linda covers for the mysterious superbaby’s powers and teaches him English, but he remains both a handful and a mystery:
Linda is baffled, and grows more so as history insists on repeating itself:
She decides to investigate further and spy on the goings-on at Kent Farm Redux, but what she sees there is very alarming:
Really, Linda? You can’t put your finger on it? Here’s a tip: THIS FAMILY IS IDENTICAL TO THE KENTS BUT EVIL. You’re welcome!
To clear her head, she takes a trip to the mini-Krypton Superman set up to honor his lost world, and hangs out with robot versions of her dead parents. That’s healthy!
Kryptonian gods are really boring.
Back at Kent Farm Redux, Superbaby’s training is getting pretty hardcore:
She’s not actually going to throw it, is she?
She does, but they’re Kandorian actors, so it’s okay! That last panel cracks me up. I guess Kryptonians use the same IQ scale we do? Sure.
But how did she figure it out?
What’s “zero climate?” Eh, whatever, happy ending for everyone!
There’s not much to this little story, but hey, it’s nice to have a breather now and then. And Linda needed one, because next week, a recurring character returns to stir up more intrigue!
